Malibu Friends of Music Announces the new Malibu Coast Youth Symphony
Beginning in Fall 2009, the Malibu Friends of Music will offer a wonderful new program for aspiring orchestral musicians ages 18 and under. The MALIBU COAST YOUTH SYMPHONY will be comprised of outstanding young instrumentalists. Conducted by Maestro Scott Hosfeld, the symphony will rehearse Monday evenings for approximately 9 weeks in the Fall, and again in the Spring, presenting an exciting final performance at the end of each term. In addition to rehearsals and performances led by Maestro Hosfeld, each instrumental section in the symphony will have individual coaching from many of the finest musicians in Los Angeles!
The group will learn repertoire from a wide range of styles, focusing on full orchestral works from the range of classical styles, current and contemporary composers and film music. Students will learn large ensemble skills, have various opportunities for concerto and other solo parts, and interact with outstanding artist coaches drawn from across the greater Los Angeles area. In addition students will have interaction and some coaching from visiting artists from the Malibu Friends of Music Kairos Series, and Summer Chamber Music Festival Series.
